Make a Treatment Plan for Inefficiency

Caught between booming patient populations and nursing and clinician staff shortages, today’s healthcare providers need ways to dramatically improve operations.

Inefficient processes waste time and squander resources that could be better spent on providing patient care. They put health outcomes at risk and add more stress to already challenging medical environments.

RedBeam healthcare RFID tracking helps hospitals and care facilities do things like:
  • Automate healthcare supply closet tracking – so clinicians don’t have to manually log use of consumables like PPE and IV tubing.
  • Enable real-time equipment tracking – so staff spend less time searching for devices and more time seeing patients.
  • Find process improvements – by automatically tracking patients from the waiting room to the operating room and into recovery.
  • Validate patient billing – by capturing everything from clinician-to-patient interactions to supplies and medications provided.

The Hospital RFID Tracking System You Need Now

Save time and effort with automated tracking capabilities that help ease the operational workload on your healthcare staff. RedBeam makes it simple to cross tedious manual tasks off their to-do lists.

Label what you want to track

Associate passive RFID tags with anything in your facility that needs tracking, including –
  • Workstations on wheels (WoWs).
  • Patient wristbands
  • Clinician and employee badges
  • Medical supplies like bandages and patient gowns
  • High-demand equipment like blood pressure cuffs , wheelchairs, ventilators, etc.
Use RFID tags that are already embedded in items when they arrive from your suppliers, or use RedBeam RFID to print and encode custom labels and tags.

Deploy fixed & mobile RFID readers

Install Zebra fixed readers at key waypoints – locations like doorframes, rooms, or closets, for example – that you want to have visibility of.

As a tagged item or staff member with an RFID-enabled badge passes through your reader’s energy field, the device will capture that unique ID signal. RedBeam RFID then logs the ID’s presence at that exact time and location.

Clinicians and other team members can also use mobile or handheld RFID readers to locate specific, in-demand items on the go.

Share real-time data

With RedBeam RFID tracking your personnel, medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals as they move from location to location, it’s easy to pass this data on to other critical healthcare systems via modern REST APIs.

Synced with your patient billing system, EMR solution, or patient care portal, RedBeam becomes a hub that translates physical items and locations into the data you need to serve your patients and improve your processes.

REDBEAM RFID CASE STUDY

Hospital Gains WoW Visibility with RFID

use-case-medical-tracking-case-study

The following example shows how a hospital system could implement RedBeam RFID to improve asset tracking efficiency. While inspired by real challenges healthcare organizations face, it does not represent a specific customer deployment.

A hospital system’s IT staff faced significant challenges keeping up with its inventory of workstations on wheels (WoWs) and other critical IT assets.

With computers and devices stored in 32 supply rooms across eight hospital buildings – and clinicians pulling assets without recording them and returning items to different closets at the end of their shifts – they were finding it impossible to get the accuracy and visibility they needed from spreadsheets.

  • The IT team applies Zebra “on metal” Silverline Blade ii RFID labels to all their organization’s high-value assets.
  • RedBeam RFID and Zebra FXR90 fixed readers automatically track every time an IT asset is removed from or added to a supply room or storage closet.
  • Staff use Zebra’s TC53e with RFD40 RFID SLEDs to conduct efficient, periodic cycle counts.
RedBeam’s medical RFID solution can help healthcare facilities like this one:

  • Eliminate IT equipment stockouts by providing significantly increased inventory visibility and reliability.
  • Greatly improve cycle counting efficiency by  removing the need for line-of-sight scanning.
  • Drastically reduce clinician time and effort spent searching for WoWs.

Healthcare RFID FAQs

Does RedBeam RFID pose any HIPAA concerns?
No. The only pieces of information stored on RedBeam RFID are unique tag IDs and locations. All associated details – sensitive or not – are stored on your back office systems. RedBeam does not require any patient or provider information to be stored in the cloud.
Are there any medical issues with RFID signals that would affect our patients?
No. UHF Passive RFID operates on the 902–928 Mhz frequency range, which has been used by things like portable phones for generations.  The power output is limited by the FCC and does not interfere with medical equipment or pacemakers that briefly pass through RFID antenna fields.
How do you view the data that’s recorded by RedBeam RFID?
While the RedBeam RFID application itself offers both web-based and mobile user interfaces, the data our system captures only ever includes tag IDs and locations. Our customers typically pull this data, or have it pushed to their back office systems, and report on the data from there.  This avoids the need for RedBeam to duplicate any sensitive information that’s already stored in your existing systems.
I have a tracking-related project that needs to accomplish a unique set of goals. Can RedBeam RFID help me with this?
Maybe. To explore what’s possible, schedule a demo and tell our RFID architects about your project.  We’re happy to discuss your use case!
