Manual Tracking Is Slow. RFID Is Speedy.

Spreadsheets and disconnected databases can only take you so far. As your operations grow and your assets start moving more frequently, outdated tracking methods create costly blind spots.

Without real-time visibility, you risk wasted time, misplaced equipment, and unnecessary spending.

Group 69
RedBeam’s automated asset tracking helps eliminate those risks with:
  • Faster audits – Scan dozens of RFID-tagged assets in seconds – no line of sight required.
  • Flexible scanning – Use RFID where it adds value, barcodes where it makes sense. You’re in control.
  • Improved accuracy – Minimize human error and capture richer data with every scan – for smarter decisions and stronger accountability.

Tag items with barcodes, RFID, or both

Scale your way into RFID when and where it makes sense for your operations. RedBeam makes it quick and easy to attach either type of tag ID to an asset and log the connection digitally.
  • Assign barcode labels to assets – Enter or scan IDs with your laptop, mobile computer, or smartphone.
  • Assign RFID tags to assets – Scan encoded IDs with a handheld RFID reader running the RedBeam mobile app.

REDBEAM CASE STUDY

Electronics Manufacturer Solves Operational Pain

automated-asset-tracking-case-study
An office equipment manufacturer was having difficulty tracking the essential tools and equipment used in their R&D labs and manufacturing processes. Relying on a shared spreadsheet to try and achieve the level of tracking visibility they needed was not only inefficient, it produced errors that caused painful manufacturing delays and increased labor costs.

They considered traditional barcode scanning solutions, but had significant concerns about their ability to conveniently and successfully attach human-readable labels to a large percentage of their assets.
We helped our customer move from manual asset tracking to a fully automated, real-time tool tracking solution. Key components included:
  • RedBeam Asset Tracking, running on Zebra TC53e mobile computers, attached to RFD40 RFID sleds.
  • Silverline Blade ii “on-metal” tags, printed and encoded from a Zebra ZT411 printer integrated with RedBeam Asset Tracking.
In particular, our printing solution enabled the customer to easily tag their assets and avoid the metal componentry interference they otherwise would have faced with mobile RFID scanning.
Within just a few days, we helped this customer establish operational control and visibility of the tools and equipment that are most critical to their manufacturing and R&D processes.

Within a month, the effort needed to track these tools had dramatically decreased – due in large part to the efficiencies they gained from using RFID to speed up tool audits with bulk scanning.

These solution improvements resulted in near elimination of the manufacturing process delays and additional labor costs their missing tools and equipment had been causing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really use both RFID and barcodes with RedBeam at the same time?

Yes. RedBeam is designed to support both barcode and RFID tracking. This lets you assign the most appropriate tag type to each asset, based on its location, value, or how it’s used – without being locked into one method.

  • Use barcodes for basic or one-off scans.
  • Use RFID for faster, bulk scans.
  • Mix and match as needed.
What kinds of assets can I track with RFID?
You can use RFID to track anything from IT equipment and tools to medical devices, mobile carts, and field gear. RedBeam supports a wide range of RFID tag types to suit different asset sizes, materials, and use cases. Let us know if you have questions about a specific type of asset.
Do I need to retag all my assets to start using RedBeam?
No. You can always use existing asset IDs, and add your own custom labels or RFID tags over time as you want. RedBeam works with all types of tags, so you can switch things up at your own pace.
What hardware do I need to read RFID tags with RedBeam?
Short answer: To activate RedBeam Asset Tracking’s RFID features, you will need at least one Zebra RFID reader.

Longer answer: In order to give our customers the best performance on the market, we’ve written our software specifically for Zebra’s industry-leading RFID devices. This includes their handheld RFID readers and sleds, fixed RFID readers and antennas, and industrial tag printers and encoders.
