Mobile Asset Tracking FAQs

How many items can I read at a time with RFID?

The mobile RedBeam RFID application captures hundreds of IDs within seconds.  In our users’ real-world scenarios, this typically translates to about 100 item tag reads per scan which can last a few seconds, which saves significant amounts of time when compared to barcode scanning.

Do I need Internet connectivity to be able to use RedBeam RFID?
Yes, logging into our application requires an Internet connection. Once online, however, you can take your mobile RFID reader outside of Wi-Fi coverage and track and locate all the items you want. RedBeam RFID will handle syncing your updated data whenever you travel back into a coverage area.
What devices does RedBeam RFID support?
RedBeam RFID supports a range of Zebra mobile RFID readers, including the TC53e mobile computer with RFD40 premium RFID sled or RFD90 ultra-rugged  RFID sled. Our development team maintains consistent support for all the newest readers and RFID advances released from Zebra.
How close do I need to be to use RedBeam’s ‘find item’ feature?

Our ‘find item’ feature really depends on three things:

1) the physics of your particular environment,

2) the tag you want to read, and

3) the handheld RFID device you’re using. Generally speaking, though, you’ll be able to detect signals from the tag you’re searching for starting at a distance of about 20–30 feet.

Can I also use RedBeam RFID to scan barcodes or manually update items?
Yes!  We designed our system to be backwards-compatible – which means you can also use it to scan barcodes and enter information you want to record manually.
